Program

Middle School

Hudson Scholars recruits fifth grade students and their families from the Washington Irving school community who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Upon review of student applications, the program invites approximately 15 students to join the new cohort and begin their journey as Hudson Scholars. Once accepted, Hudson Scholars commits to the students for four consecutive summers and school years.

Summer Program

Each summer we bring together a group of passionate teachers and incredible Upper School mentors to work with our Scholars in an effort to provide them with academic instruction and the development of character, leadership and social/emotional skills.  By preventing summer learning loss, inspiring creativity and passion for learning, instilling confidence, and fostering positive relationships, the Hudson Scholars program seeks to provide the Scholars with a transformational experience.

The summer enrichment consists of a full school day with engaging and challenging classes in English, math, science, social studies, drama, art, computer science, and physical education. The program emphasizes leadership skills while promoting values such as hard work, integrity, empathy, resilience, and community through a thoughtfully-designed character education curriculum. Special events, including field trips, a family day, an introduction to college day, parent gathering and support, an overnight campout, and more, further expand the summer experience.

School Year Program

During the school year, Hudson Scholars offers ongoing academic support and continued community building through weekly tutoring sessions at the Warner Library in Tarrytown. In addition, we host one Saturday reunion each month where we bring our Scholars and mentors together for a day of learning and fun. Our priority over the course of the school year is two fold: first, to provide academic support and enrichment and second to continue growing the relationships and sense of community.

High School

During their four years of high school, Hudson Scholars will continue to offer support to the Scholars through a variety of ways.

Summer Support

We will work with each Scholar to help them find and apply to meaningful and engaging opportunities during their summers. Whether a local academic program, a residential program, volunteer work, or a job, our team wants to match each Scholar with something they are passionate about and excited to do during their summers.

Come back as a Hudson Scholars mentor! After four years in our middle school summer program, Scholars who have completed 10th grade are invited to come back and serve as mentors to our younger Scholars. Bringing our older Scholars back to campout to be the same leaders and role models that they lookup up to just a few years earlier in an incredibly exciting and impactful experience for all.

College Support

Hudson Scholars will work with the Scholars and their families in a variety of ways through the college process. Some examples of the support that will be provided:

  • College Admission Process Information Sessions

  • College visits

  • SAT/ACT Prep

  • College Essay writing support

  • College Counseling

  • FAFSA workshop
