Hudson Scholars

Middle and High School Programs

Middle School Years

Hudson Scholars recruits fifth grade students and their families from the Washington Irving school community who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Upon review of student applications, the program invites approximately 15 students to join the new cohort and begin their `journey as Hudson Scholars. Once accepted, Hudson Scholars commits to the students for four consecutive summers and school years.

Summer

Each summer we bring together a group of passionate teachers and incredible Upper School mentors to work with our Scholars in an effort to provide them with academic instruction and the development of character, leadership and social/emotional skills.  By preventing summer learning loss, inspiring creativity and passion for learning, instilling confidence, and fostering positive relationships, the Hudson Scholars program seeks to provide the Scholars with a transformational experience.

School Year Programming

During the school year, Hudson Scholars offers ongoing academic support and continued community building through weekly tutoring sessions at the Warner Library in Tarrytown.  In addition, we host one Saturday reunion each month where we bring our Scholars and mentors together for a day of learning and fun.  Our priority over the course of the school year is twofold: first, to provide academic support and enrichment and second to continue growing the relationships and sense of community.

High School Years

During their four years of high school, Hudson Scholars will
continue to offer support to the Scholars through a variety of ways:

  • Ongoing Summer Support

We will work with each Scholar to help them find and apply to meaningful and engaging opportunities during their summers.

  • Return to be a Hudson Scholars Mentor

Scholars who have completed 10th grade are invited to come back and serve as mentors to our younger Scholars.

  • College Application / Process Support

Hudson Scholars will work with the Scholars and their families through the college process. (College visits, SAT/ACT Prep, Counseling, etc...)
